A story about my Grandfather's Chevy by Mike Farrugla.
Classics Against Cancer is the show I anticipate the most every year. Ever since the very first one in 1987, I have looked forward to attending with my Grandfather in our 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS every Father's day. We had only owned "The Chevy" as he called it, for five years at that first show. I too was only Five years old.
Being raised by my grandfather really made him my dad. Our favourite father-and-son time always involved our Chevy. From getting Ice cream, to attending shows (especially Classis Against Cancer), or random road trips to nowhere in particular, we always had the best of times. Much to my objections my grandfather sold the car in 2002 to fund my education. While gone, it was never forgotten.
My grandfather became a victim to cancer in 2015 and passed away the following year as a result. In his final days my grandfather told me one of his biggest regrets in life was selling his Chevy. After my grandfather passed I made it my mission to locate and get the car back. In 2019 that dream came true. I located the car in the USA and shipped it home.
Today I carry on our tradition that we started all those years ago. With a more profound meaning, I proudly display "The Chevy" in his memory. I cannot wait again for this Father's Day.
Congratulations Classics Against Cancer on 35 Years! Thank you for those cherished memories that we created over the years.
